Classic Cake Mix in a Jar

Ingredients
  

Ingredients for the Jar (Base Ingredients)

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 `teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions for Assembling the Jar

  • 1 In a large bowl, thoroughly whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • 2 Carefully spoon the mixture into a clean 1-quart Mason jar. Tap the bottom of the jar lightly on a towel-covered counter to settle the dry ingredients so they all fit.
  • 3 Seal tightly with a lid.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs (If you want a white cake, use 6 egg whites instead)

Additions or substitutions (but it wont fit into a quart jar)

  • For 1½ cups milk, use: 6 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder (⅜ cup) 1½ cups water
  • For 1½ cupssoftened butter, use: powder ¾ cup neutral oil (such as vegetable or canola oil)
  • For 3 large eggs,use: 6 tablespoons whole egg powder 6 tablespoons water (⅜ cup) Mix until smooth before adding.

    Write thesedirections on a gift tag and tie it around the jar:
    To Bake the Cake:
    Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan. Empty the contents of the jar into a large mixing bowl. Add 1 ½ cups softened butter,  1 ½ cups milk, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and 3 large eggs. Beat with an electric hand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • For chocolate cake: Add 3/4 cup cocoa powder
