Honey Orange Slices

Honey Orange Slices

Sun-Kissed& Sweet: Candied Sunshine in Every Jar (Honey Oranges)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 to 2 lbs Oranges
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 1/2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups honey
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Slices oranges, discarding the end peices. Place in the pot. Cover oranges with water and bring to a boil. Boil for 15 minutes
  • While oranges are boiling, tie cinnamon sticks and cloves into a square of cheesecloth creating a spice bag. Set to the side.
  • Drain oranges,
  • In the pot, place the lemon juice, honey and sugar and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add the spice bag and orange slices. Simmer for 40 minutes.
  • Discard spice bag,
    Place oranges in half pint jars
    add liquid over orange slices
    debubble
    leave 1/2 inch headspace
    Process jars 10 minutes, adjusting for altitude. Turn off heat, remove lid, let jars stand 5 minutes. Remove jars and cool 12-24 hours. Check lids for seal, they should not flex when center is pressed
